What to know before using the result

Does STEP weight calculation happen in the browser?
Yes. The file is parsed locally in the browser to find solid volume, and the selected density is applied there. The calculator does not require a software download.
Does the estimate include holes and cutouts?
A successfully parsed solid STEP model includes modeled holes, cutouts, and formed geometry.
Why might a STEP file fail to calculate?
The file must contain a supported closed solid. Surface-only geometry, open shells, malformed exports, or unsupported STEP entities may not provide a usable solid volume.

Assumptions and limits

  • The STEP file must contain at least one supported closed solid body.
  • Modeled holes, cutouts, bends, and other solid geometry are included in the volume.
  • Coatings, hardware, protective film, and unmodeled manufacturing features are excluded.
  • Published density values are representative; verify alloy certificates when tolerances matter.
