What's New at Fabworks: Summer 2026

Quoting a full assembly on Fabworks used to mean repeating yourself. Forty parts meant forty material dropdowns, forty finish picks, and a lot of scrolling to check the result.

This summer we fixed that. You can now change many parts in one move, review a quote as a table, hand a clean estimate to purchasing, or let an AI agent build the quote for you. We also started accepting DXF files directly and gave the bending guidelines a set of calculators.

Change many parts at once

Tick the parts you want to change, or click Select similar to grab every part of the same type. A bar appears with material, thickness, finish, and quantity controls that apply to the whole selection.

The bar only offers choices that work for every selected part. If the parts do not share a compatible option, it says so instead of letting you pick something that will fail later.

The same selection drives hole operations. Choose the parts once, open Hole Ops, and add taps, countersinks, or hardware to every matching hole in one pass.

See the whole quote as a table

When you are working from a bill of materials, open the quote menu and choose View table.

Each part is a row with its preview, name, part number, quantity, material, thickness, finish, hole operations, unit price, and total. Edit names, quantities, materials, thicknesses, and finishes right in the row. Sort the rows, then drag columns into the order your BOM uses, hide the ones you do not need, and pin the ones you want to keep in view.

The Export menu copies the table as CSV or Markdown, or downloads it as a CSV or XLSX file for the spreadsheet your team already uses.

Download a PDF estimate

Choose Download PDF from the quote menu to get a summary of the quote: every part with its material, quantity, unit price, and extended price, plus the current total.

Before checkout, shipping is marked "Calculated through checkout" so nobody reads it as a zero-dollar line. Once you are in checkout, the PDF reflects the delivery option and pricing you have on screen.

The document is labeled Estimate, not a formal quote. Pricing, lead times, and fees can change until you place the order. It gives purchasing or your own customer a clean record of what you reviewed.

Let an AI agent build the quote

Fabworks now runs a hosted MCP server at api.fabworks.com/mcp. Connect it to Claude Code, Codex, or any MCP client. Sign in through your browser, or use an API key for automated setups.

Hand the agent your STEP files and tell it what you need. It can search our material catalog, create a quote with all of your parts, set materials and finishes, change quantities, read the prices, and report any DFM issues that need your attention. If something is wrong, tell it to fix the configuration rather than rebuilding the quote yourself.

Checkout stays with you. Open the finished quote, look over the prices and warnings, and place the order when you are ready.

Upload DXF files directly

Fabworks now accepts DXF files, so flat sheet parts no longer need to be converted to STEP before you can get a price.

Drop a DXF on the quote page or the homepage. Fabworks shows you the drawing, detects the units, and lists the parts it found. Enter a thickness and continue into the same quote flow you use for STEP files. If a drawing holds several parts, each becomes its own quote line, and repeated copies are counted as quantity. Your original file is never modified.

Bending guidelines with calculators

The bending guidelines now bring our current capabilities, design checks, and calculators into one place, so you can catch problems before uploading a part.

Three calculators sit on the page so you can check a design before you upload it:

• Bend radius estimates the finished inside and outside radius for a material, thickness, and angle.
• Minimum flange gives the shortest flange we can form and shows the nearby distortion zone.
• Joggle starts from the offset you need and solves for the bend angle, with one-thickness and two-thickness shortcuts.

Name your quotes

A quote number tells us which quote it is. It does not tell you which project it was for three weeks later. Choose Rename from the quote menu and call the quote whatever you would call it in conversation, like the project, the revision, or the customer it belongs to.

The name shows on the quote card in place of the number, and the search box on the quotes page matches on it. Type part of the name and the quote comes up, so you can stop scrolling by date.

Archive quotes you are done with

Quotes accumulate. Choose Archive from the quote menu on one you have moved past and it leaves your main list. Nothing is deleted.

Click Archived on the quotes page to see everything you have set aside. Search within it, and when an old design comes back around, click Restore and the quote returns to your list exactly as you left it.

Rivnuts on sheet and tube parts

Rivnuts are now a hardware option in Hole Ops. Pick a hole, choose Rivnut, and we install it before the part ships, so the threads are there when you go to bolt the assembly together.

They work on sheet parts and on tube parts. For tube, rivnuts go on the outside face and join taps as the hole operations available for tube parts.

Counterbores straight from your CAD

Model a counterbore in your CAD and Fabworks reads it from the file. The design check compares the counterbore diameter and pilot hole against the sizes we cut. If a size is close, it tells you what we will adjust it to. If we cannot make it, it flags the hole and shows the nearest size we can.

Supported counterbores are priced on the part automatically. There is nothing to add in Hole Ops. See the counterboring guidelines for the inch and metric sizes we support.
